The Essential Beliefs of New Life
It is our desire that New Life Community Church would exist as a Biblically faithful community in the essentials of the Christian faith, while allowing room for personal conviction and conscience in areas that seem less clear in the Bible, and that are not crucial to salvation, unity, or witness. Therefore, we embrace the ancient Christian axiom, "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things love".
What follows is meant to be a clear statement of our essential beliefs, around which we seek to have a basic level of doctrinal unity as a local community of faith. We trust that these brief statements of our beliefs place us squarely in the center of classical Christian belief, without becoming unduly narrow in areas of belief that could, but should not, separate Christians.
What We Believe About. . .
The Scriptures
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the Divine and final authority for Christian faith and life.
God
We believe in one God and King, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, distinguishable, yet indivisible.
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His imminent and personal return in power and glory.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.
Mankind
We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is, therefore, lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
Salvation
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential and that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification for all who believe.
The Ordinances of the Church
We believe that water baptism by immersion for professing believers and the celebration of communion by believers not under discipline and with a good conscience are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age.
The Church
We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head; furthermore that only those who are, thus, members of the true Church shall be eligible for membership in the local Church. We further believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church and that every local church has the right, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs under the leadership of Biblically qualified and ordained Elders.
The Return of the Lord
We believe in the imminent and personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this "Blessed Hope" has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
The Resurrection of the Dead
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord; of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment. |
